Tweed Rules! Fargen Old 54′ Head
November 28th, 2008 · No Comments
Fargen Tweed Old 54′ 2 x 6V6 amp head
There are so many boring and mediocre 5E3 tweed deluxe clones on the market today…I thought it was time to put a useful new spin on a traditional favorite…The new Fargen Old 54′ tweed takes the classic 5E3 design t the next level.Where the fun begins is a pre double jumped input section with separate volume controls for each side of the tube. The orginal 5E3 tweed deluxe has both sides of the preamp stage voiced the same and that seems a little redundent and not as useful…I chose to voice CH1 with a slight jangle and airiness where a CH2 stays the tried and true 5E3 voicing. I also fixed the inherent lack of solid low end in the 5E3 tweed deluxe created by the stock 5y3 rectifier tube. I redesigned the Old 54′ tweed around a 5Ar4 rect tube to tighten the lows and add some much needed guts for live work…but have no fear…the B+ and plate voltages all remain the same as a vinatge 5E3 tweed deluxe…This retains all the dynamics and feel we all know and love. If your tired of the same old tweed deluxe offerings…step up to the next level with the Fargen Old 54′ tweed amp.
Specs:
Real vinatge style aged tweed head box
Mercury magnetics vinatge style 5E3 Tweed Deluxe transformer set.
2 x 6V6 cathode biased design
5AR4 Rectifier tube
2 x 12AX7 preamp tubes (can sub 12ay7,12au7,12at7 for fist stage)
Cheers,

Fargen “Retro Classic” plexi clones
October 31st, 2008 · 1 Comment
Fargen 50 watt “Retro Classic” Lead & Bass model
I have been planning to offer a line of bad ass 60’s Marshall clones for a long time and just finally got around to it.
For those of you who dream of capturing the “magic” British amp rock tones Ala Led Zeppelin,AC/DC, Bad Company, ect. without finding an overpriced/heavily modded vinatge unit or a very stale and boring re-issue…The Fargen “Retro Classic” 25 and 50 watt amps are here. These amps are hand wired true to the original spec and layout of a classic 60’s Marshall plexi amp.
I have taken the liberty of altering a few component choices and voltages to give you the ultimate tone and sustain based upon 10+ years of working inside the real deal. Over the years I have found many “non schematic” based changes + “happy accidents” that surfaced from the Marshall factory now and again. Many of these amps offered up the “magic” tone everyone is searching based upon these anomalies…I am talking about the killer tones players are always searching for but will never find… as most of these prime vintage Marshall units are owned by famous rock stars or those lucky enough to know what they have…But have no fear… I have rolled together the best elements of a lead and bass model Plexi amp so everyone can enjoy having a real “Retro Classic”!
Cheers!

Good Wood! Fargen Dual Classic custom
October 17th, 2008 · No Comments
I finished this really excellent poplar 2 x 10″ Dual Classic combo this week.
My brother Jeff(j.designcabs) just continues to amaze me with his master carpentry skills.
The customer wanted the stock Blackbird blackface tones on CH1 a slightly more high gain modern lead sound out of CH 2…so I pretty much pulled out the Super Collider OD channel tricks for this one. I added my all tube buffered FX loop and reverb circuit and it’s ready to rock…
